TimeGiver in the spotlight: Leon G Cooperman
In our spotlight this week, we are delighted to present Wall Street legend Leon G. (Lee) Cooperman as the latest TimeGiver to pledge his support to the Time to Give Network.
Lee is a billionaire investor and former hedge fund manager who is now Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Omega Advisors Family Office, Inc. As a distinguished financial expert, Lee personifies our ideal TimeGiver.
At the end of 1991, following 25 years of service, Lee retired from his positions as a General Partner of Goldman, Sachs & Co. and as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sachs Asset Management (which he founded) to organise and launch the investment-management business, Omega Advisors, Inc., which he ran for 27 years before converting it to a family office at the end of 2018. At its height, Omega Advisors managed more than $10 billion of client funds.
His contributions at Goldman Sachs earned him the title of top portfolio strategist for nine consecutive years in Institutional Investor Magazine’s All-America Research Team survey. He has held numerous other leadership roles, including as President of the New York Society of Security Analysts and Chairman Emeritus of the Saint Barnabas Development Foundation. His many honours include Hunter College’s Hall of Fame, the American Jewish Committee’s Wall Street Human Relations Award, and Bloomberg Markets' "50 Most Influential" list. In 2015, he was inducted into the Horatio Alger Association. In addition to his professional work, Lee (and his wife, Toby) spend a great deal of their time giving their wealth away to a wide range of philanthropic causes.
And one more interesting fact about Lee – he and Toby raised their family across the street from our very own founder, Andrew Kaufmann!
